Ways to Help
Sangam India depends upon people volunteering their time and knowledge, and we always welcome new members to the organization.
On Site Work
Here are some ways in which you can help if you are close to our Chennai, Tamil Nadu headquarters.
1. Volunteer
We run a weekly educational programme as well as periodic events such as health camps and food service events, and there is always a need for volunteers to assist in running these events. Volunteers can take this opportunity to see Sangam India at work first hand and to meet the wonderful people we help. Please refer to our calendar and our blog for upcoming events and contact us if you are interested in coming.
2. Medical Aid
If you are in Chennai and are a medical professional, you can participate in our health camps. If you are not a health professional, you can help in planning and executing the camps.
3. Provide vocational training
Many people in underprivileged communities are eager to obtain training for a new career in order to be more self-sufficient. We are actively researching vocational training programmes to help them stand on their own. If you are able to suggest feasible training programmes or would like to sponsor someone through a training programme when the possibility arises, please contact us.
Share Your Knowledge
Regardless of where you are in the world, we welcome your suggestions and expertise. We collaborate through various media to allow people to participate wherever they are.
1. Education
Our educational programme aims to inculcate the values of health education, citizenship, courtesy, creativity, teamwork and trust in the children we work with. Whether you are an educator or simply love working with children, we would greatly value your input, no matter where you are in the world.
2. Health
Our health committee works on researching relevant health issues, record-keeping and statistical analysis after health camps and screening, and developing adult health education programmes. Help the team in developing programs and planning proper implementation.
3. Sanitation
The sanitation committee collaborates on research data and information collected from local projects to promote hygiene and improve facilities in underprivileged communities, as well as by raising awareness of the sanitation conditions in slums. Help the team by giving your input and aiding in the research work.
4. Legal
Sangam India is working toward gaining 501(c)3 status in the United States and also requires legal consultation in India with regards to functioning within the Indian infrastructure. If you would be able to contribute your legal expertise in either country, please contact us.
5. Translation
We frequently require translating skills for various documents and flyers in Tamil. Currently, we also need translations to colloquial Tamil for a number of skits that we will be teaching the children.
Contributions
Even if you live farther away or abroad, you can always contribute to Sangam India's project development.
1. Donations in Kind (Material Donations)
We accept contributions in kind, which include clothing and supplies. You can donate new or gently used clothing (for any gender or age), new toiletries, school supplies, medical equipment and food. We can accept non-perishable food around the year, but please check our calendar or blog for upcoming food service events if you plan to contribute perishable food.
2. Financial Contributions
We use your financial contributions strictly for the implementation of our projects and for no other purpose. With your contributions we purchase medical supplies, equipment for the children's activities, and books for vocational training and literacy. You may also specify your contribution for a certain cause, such as paying for a child's school tuition, creating a scholarship fund or organizing a medical camp.
